Communication Skills
Some Key Things To Consider:
-Practice Non verbal Communication (Good Eye Contact)
It is always important to keep good eye contact without being
to clingy to someone's eyes. You need to look confident but not
stare into their soul.
-Dress Smartly
It is always important to give a great first impression and wearing
smart clothes is a great way to show this. This depends on how
smart an interview is. This could mean a suit or just a collared shirt
-Listen
One of the most important things is to listen. If they ask you a
question and you didn't hear them and have to ask again then they
will think that if you can't listen in an interview you won't be able
to in one of their lectures.
-Don't Talk To Much
If you drown out the interviewer with your own words it could show
them that you are nervous but no-one likes to be spoken over and
it is not a good look and will be a major setback.
-Don't Be To Familiar
Treat it like an interview and not like a chat, this is a serious
business meeting and not a quick chat with a friend. This does
not mean you can't treat each other as friends.
-Use Appropriate Language
It is key not to use any slang words in an interview as this can
show a sign of immaturity and this is not an impression you
want to make.
-Don't Be Cocky
It is important to keep the balance between confidence, professionalism,
and modesty. Even if you're putting on a performance to demonstrate your ability,
overconfidence is as bad, if not worse, as being too reserved.
-Take Care To Answer The Questions
It is important to give your best answer, you should not take too long but you
should not just give a rubbish answer.
-Ask Questions
Part of knowing how to interview is being ready to ask questions that demonstrate an
interest in what goes on in the company. Asking questions also gives you the opportunity
to find out if this is the right place for you. The best questions come from listening to what
you're asked during the interview and asking for additional information.
-Don't Appear Desperate
You don't want to come across as desperate but you don't want to show that they need you.
Reflect the three Cs during the interview: cool, calm, and confident.
-Work On Your Answers
The best way to give the best answer is to practice some things that might be useful to say
Like i said above it is important to give the perfect answer but you can't sit there for 5 minutes
thinking of what to say.

University Interviews
|
In this first video (to the left) it explains how planning your interview is the most important part. It stresses how you should review your own personal statement as it is key to know about yourself so you can get that across to the interviewer. It also says how you should know information about the institution and the course this shows that you are interested and have a passion. This planning includes travel arrangements. This is possibly the most important part. This includes finding the particular room. Always ask your questions as well to show you are taking in all of the information and want to find out more.

Portfolio's
The Design for this website is simple yet effective, it straight away shows you the best of all his work with a simple video background. This works well because you see his work before you even notice the Title. This is eye catching which shows how all of his work is interesting. This stands out to people and shows he has some thing different from the rest.
The options it gives us for the pages are very standard. Portfolio and contact are the two tabs i see on every single portfolio and are a key part of showing your skills and even having a chance of a job. This particular portfolio is very short and straight to the point which has its pros and cons. This is personally my style so it is good that this is a relevant example for me.
The key things on portfolio websites are that people can easily see what you've produced and how to contact you. This portfolio shows this in a nice, easy and creative way. Creative is the key point here as this is the most important thing for a university or employer.

The design of this website uses a completely different colour pallette to the last one. This is because this one is for a cinematographer who needs to show off good images. Putting these images on a white background shows them best.
The tabs that show up Features what he has done on his showreel page but also has a page just for a music video, this can mean it is his best production or his most recent. Either way he is making it stand out from the other ones.
The commercials tab targets businesses looking for someone to make them an advert, this is important as the media business is more about corporate videos than it is oscar winning productions that make millions across the world. He also shows off all the awards he has won, this is an amazing way to show off how good you are and uploading any awards will put you in front of any others either businesses or film companies are looking for.
In conclusion this portfolio is much more aimed at the corporate side of the industry however it still is good for film companies. It shows that a website needs to be completely different to someone elses to show creativity but also to stand out. |
