What Are Semiotics
What Is A Signifier
A signifier is a sign or 'the pointing finger' - in the form of an image, text, words, smell or sounds - that we interpret in a certain way subconsciously, we have seemingly have no control in terms of how we react to a signifier as in many cases it has already been determined by the environment around us.
Why are Semiotics useful in Advertising and why do Advertisers use Signs?
Semiotics are incredibly useful in advertising as a result of the fact that, an image for example, can have a subconscious effect on the public into them purchasing a product or preventing them from doing something that endangers society. It is the advertisers purpose to make sure that the signifiers follow the correct signified that they want from the campaign.
